Mother Of Deceased Baby Found In Reservoir Identified By State Police

HARWINTON, CT — The mother of the deceased baby found in a bag in the Bristol Reservoir in Harwinton Tuesday has been identified and interviewed by state police, according to officials.

"The mother, identified as a Connecticut resident, has come forward and spoken with State Police Western District Major Crime Detectives," wrote officials in a statement. "The mother, whose name is being withheld at this time, has also been provided necessary medical care at a local hospital.

"[Her child] has been identified as a baby boy, born approximately 1-2 weeks ago."

The infant was discovered at about 10:40 a.m. in the reservoir, which is located on Route 72 and Route 4 in Harwinton, and maintained by the City of Bristol Water Department.

State police said the mother "is working with detectives as they continue to investigate the circumstances" surrounding the case.

"Western District Major Crime Detectives would like to thank the public for their understanding, support and assistance in this matter. We appreciate and encourage residents with continuing to help keep their community, town, and state and its residents safe."
