New Haven Man Killed in 3-Vehicle Crash on I-91 in Meriden: State Police
The crash occurred Friday afternoon near exit 16.

MERIDEN, CT — A 54-year-old New Haven man was killed Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on I-91 in Meriden, according to state police.
Thomas Diaz was transported to MidState Medical Center following the 4 p.m. crash where he succumbed to his injuries. The crash temporarily shut down the thruway's northbound lane and a portion of the southbound lane.
State police said the crash unfolded near exit 16 with a vehicle driven by Diaz and another vehicle driven by Keven Gomez, 24, of Bridgeport, traveling southbound, with Diaz in the left lane and Gomez in the right lane. Diaz's vehicle drifted over and collided with Gomez's vehicle, then Diaz crossed the median and collided with vehicle driven by Angel Luis Villafane, 29, of Hartford, which was traveling northbound.

Diaz was ejected from his vehicle as a result of the crash. Two passengers in Villafane's vehicle reported minor injuries but refused medical attention at the scene, but no other injuries were reported.
State police are continuing to investigate the crash and ask anyone who may have witnessed it to contact Trooper First Class Bastura at 203-393-3001 or 203-393-4200.
