Update: Meriden Shooting Victim Transported to Trauma Hospital, Suspects in Custody
The victim is undergoing surgery. A witness followed the suspects after the event unfolded.

Police have four males in custody after a shooting in City Park Wednesday.
Police received numerous reports of gunfire near the basketball court in the park around 4:15 p.m., said Sgt. Darrin McKay, police spokesman.
There was a report that someone had been struck, but police found no victim at the scene. They later learned a 22-year-old male was transported to the hospital by a friend.

He was then transported via LifeStar helicopter to a trauma hospital where he is undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds.
A witness saw the shooting unfold and followed suspects as he or she called dispatchers.

Officers then found that the reported vehicle was involved in an accident near East Main Street and Pomeroy Avenue. Police hadn’t spotted the vehicle until that point, McKay said.
The four males fled on foot, but were quickly apprehended by officers.
“Please know that this is an ongoing investigation in its very early stages with numerous crime scenes to process,” McKay said. “Our detectives will be working throughout the evening trying to establish further details.”
