2 Critically Injured In Crash On Route 9 In Middletown: Police
The passenger was ejected through the windshield by the force of the crash, according to police.
MIDDLETOWN, CT — Two people were critically injured in a crash early Thursday morning on Route 9 in Middletown, according to police.
Police responded around 5:05 a.m. to the area of Route 9 South and Miller Street on the report of a two-vehicle crash.
Officers found two heavily damaged vehicles in the road and a passenger lying in the southbound lane with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said Middletown Fire Department personnel responded and immediately began life-saving efforts, while Connecticut State Police and Cromwell police officers responded to assist with the highway traffic.
A blue 2008 Toyota Corolla was in the southbound lane with heavy front, driver’s side damage, police said. The driver was still in the vehicle and life-threatening injuries were reported, according to police.

Police said the person lying in the southbound lane was in the front passenger seat of the Corolla. The force of the collision caused the passenger to be ejected through the windshield, according to police.
The second vehicle, a gray 2018 Nissan Rogue, was in the northbound lane with heavy front, passenger-side damage, according to police.
The Rogue was on fire, but police said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The driver had “non-life-threatening injuries to the stomach and lower extremities,” according to police.
The two occupants of the Corolla were taken to Hartford Hospital and were listed in critical condition, according to police.
Police said the driver of the Rogue was taken to Middlesex Hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Their names aren’t being released at this time, police said.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota Corolla was exiting Miller Street,” police wrote in a news release. “The operator was attempting to cross Route 9 Southbound in order to enter the northbound lanes through the median. The Nissan Rogue was traveling south on Route 9 when the Corolla crossed the highway and the operator was unable to stop before the collision.”
