Accused Middletown Shooter Arrested In New York: Police

His arrest came four days after he opened fire on another person, prompting shelter-in-place advisories for parts of Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — The man wanted in connection with a Tuesday shooting in Middletown has been arrested, according to police.

Christopher Robert Lane, 29, was taken into custody in Poughkeepsie, New York, the Middletown Police Department confirmed. His arrest came four days after he opened fire on another person, prompting shelter-in-place advisories for parts of Middletown.

"This arrest was the result of extensive investigative efforts, interagency cooperation, and information developed throughout the investigation," police said in a statement. "We appreciate the public’s patience and support during the large police presence and shelter-in-place advisories that were issued as officers worked to ensure the safety of our community."

The shooting incident occurred just before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Westlake Drive, police said.

According to a news release, investigators determined that Lane fired a gun at another person following a dispute about the occupants of a car. Police said Lane and the victim knew each other.

The victim was not struck and was able to flee the area safely, according to police.

Officers immediately responded and conducted an extensive search for Lane using multiple dog teams, drones and other resources. Precautionary shelter-in-place advisories were issued for portions of the Westlake, East Street and Atkins Street areas during the search. They were lifted later that day.

Police spent the following days searching for Lane, who they said was armed and dangerous.
