Convicted Felon Assaults Parking Authority Employee While Getting the Boot: Middletown Police

Police say the man struck the victim while his back was turned and he was placing a boot on the suspect's vehicle.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A convicted felon is accused of assaulting a Middletown Parking Authority employee in Melilli Plaza while the victim was placing a boot on the man’s vehicle, according to police.

Zachary Hayes Jr., 27, of Ridgefield Drive, Middletown, was arrested after the incident on July 28.

Police said Hayes struck the victim with his knee while the victim had his back turned to him and was placing the boot on the vehicle.

Hayes then fled the scene in his vehicle after the victim was knocked to the ground, according to the police report.

Police said the altercation was caught on surveillance video and two independent eyewitness confirmed the incident.

Hayes also subsequently confessed to the crime, according to police.

Police located Hayes and the vehicle a short time after he fled the scene.

Hayes was charged with second-degree breach of peace and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 17.

Hayes has previous convictions for stealing a firearm and drug charges, according to the state judicial branch website.
