MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown Public Schools will be closed through at least March 27, Superintendent of Schools Michael T. Conner announced. Conner said the decision was made based on information provided by state and local government, and in conjunction with the support of district and executive union leadership.

Conner commended the school community for its collective efforts over the last two weeks to address the potential effects of the new coronavirus in Middletown.

“As we continue to act with courage under a high level of uncertainty, our process is to always take calculated, intentional steps with the underpinning theme of ‘what is best for students and staff,’” Conner wrote in a letter to the school district’s community.

Conner said the district doesn’t have a final return date for students and staff, however, he will be presenting options to the Middletown Board of Education at a special meeting on Wednesday, March 18. Parents will also be receiving information over the weekend about academic support and food distribution (i.e. sites and times).
