Dog Dies In Hot Car, Middletown Man Charged: PD

The interior temperature of a vehicle can reach 109 degrees within 10 minutes on a hot 90-degree day.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A local man was arrested after a dog died while in a hot car, according to police. David Beveridge, 79, told police he intended to bring Jennie a 3-year-old Labradoodle to doggy day care Tuesday, but he went straight to work, according to the Hartford Courant.

He brought the dog to a local veterinarian, who was upset because it wasn't the first time this had happened, according to police. Beveridge's other dog Charlie, a 4-year-old poodle mix died after he left it in his car in May 2014, according to NBC Connecticut.

Beveridge is a professor emeritus of chemistry at Wesleyan University.

As temperatures soar into the mid 90's police in the area are reminding residents to not leave their dogs or children in hot vehicles. North Haven Police have received several reports of dogs left in hot vehicles.
