MXCC SUSTAINABILITY TEAM BRINGS “ONE WORLD HOUSE” TO CAMPUS

As a prelude to the “Moving Planet Day” celebration in downtown Middletown, the MxCC Sustainability Team is bringing a “One World House” to campus.  To introduce this house and explain its purpose, Chris Schweitzer from the New Haven/Leon Sister City Project will speak at MxCC on Monday September 19 from 12:30-1:15 p.m.  The talk is part of the new MxCC Brown Bag Lunch Series, and is open to all faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

The “One World House” comes to MxCC from the New Haven/Leon Sister City Project http://www.newhavenleon.org/earthathon), a progressive,
binational, grassroots organization that fosters a partnership between the communities of Greater New Haven and León, Nicaragua, and promotes social justice. The house is a full-size model of a house typical in rural communities in Nicaragua and around the world.  It includes nine banners that describe the impact of climate change on vulnerable rural communities, the science of
climate change, and what we can do to mitigate the impacts. The “One World House” will be moved downtown from the MxCC campus for the September 24 Moving Planet Day events.
