Connecticut Farm Bureau Association is sponsoring a workshop, Processing your Farm Products for Profit, March 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wesleyan University's Exley Science Center, 265 Church St., Middletown.
With the resurgence in demand for locally grown produce and passage of the 2010 Act Concerning Farms, Food and Jobs, producers recognize opportunity in processing and selling farm-raised products. Processing of food is regulated by a number of Connecticut agencies. This program will provide a road map for producers to help navigate the regulatory process.
Representatives of the Connecticut Departments of Agriculture, Public Health and Consumer Protection plus experienced producers will present guidelines on processing acidified foods, farm-raised meats, poultry, eggs and dairy, cider production, GAP, establishing a commercial kitchen, marketing produce to restaurants, plus more. Cost $75 for Farm Bureau members, $90 for non-members and includes lunch.
