Intoxicated Man Chokes Family Dog During Dispute, Gets Arrested Again the Next Day: Middletown Police

The man was arrested again the next day when police say he returned to the home despite being ordered to have no contact with the family.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man is accused of choking the family dog during a domestic dispute and was arrested again when he went back to the house the next day despite police telling him he was to have no contact with the involved parties.

Roosevelt James Jr., 48, of Markham Street, was arrested after police responded to the home at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 on the report of a domestic dispute.

During the altercation with the female victim, James was intoxicated and making gestures and made a combative stance like he was going to hit the involved parties, according to the police report.

The family dog then lunged at James and he is accused of choking the dog until the woman began to yell, according to police.

James was charged with disorderly conduct and was also issued a conditions of released that stated he have no contact with any of the involved parties until further notice from the courts, according to the report.

However, police were back at the home at about 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 6 on the report of a domestic dispute.

The victim told responding officers that James returned to the home and tried to push his way inside to get his belongings and she told him he isn’t allowed at the house without police.

James then got into the car and left with his sister, according to the report.

Police then located James at his sister’s residence and he confirmed to police that he went to the house to get his belongings but left when the victim told him he wasn’t allowed to be there. He told police no altercation occurred.

James told police that he thought he was allowed to get his belongings the next day after he was arrested and that’s why he went back to the house, according to the report.

James was charged with second-degree violation of conditions of release. He was released on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8.
