Man Arrested at Social Services After Berating Clerk About His Benefits

Middletown Police say irate 54-year-old told cop he hoped someone would shoot him and he 'wouldn't feel bad'

Police report the following arrests:


TWO COUNTS BREACH OF PEACE – On Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m., George R. Airline, 54, of Bow Lane came into the state Department of Social Services on Main Street Extension to discuss his benefits. Over the course of an hour, he loudly complained about his benefits to other clients, saying immigrants get better benefits than he. When asked to leave he became agitated and made comments he hoped someone would come inside and shoot the private-duty police officer there and he wouldn’t feel bad. While being escorted out, he threw himself over the chairs, claiming he had been thrown to the floor.

VIOLATION OF PROBATION – On Sept. 20, Cesar Concepcion, 29, of North Street, New Britain, turned himself in on a warrant.

TWO COUNTS SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR – On Sept. 20 at midnight, Daniel J. Ventre, 28, of Pearl Street was found on Washington Street while police were investigating a suspicious person. He had active warrants.

USE OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS, NON-STUDENT POSSESSING DRUGS NEAR A SCHOOL – On Sept. 20 at 10 p.m., Jordan Obataiye, 41, of Butternut Street was seen in an alley at the back of Los Primos market on Main Street by foot patrol officers. It’s known as a high crime area. He told police he was about to jump the fence to walk up to Main Street and they asked why he  didn’t just walk through the store. He said he didn’t have drugs then said he had a needle in his boot with .2 grams of crack residue. He had track marks on his arm.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, FOURTH-DEGREE CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, INTERFERING WITH AN EMERGENCY CALL – On Sept. 19 at 6:08 p.m., John Kurek, 20, of Lakeside Avenue was detained by Portland Police on two active warrants.

FAILURE TO HAVE LIT HEADLAMP, FAILURE TO HAVE PROPERLY COLORED TAIL LIGHT, OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WITH SUSPENDED REGISTRATION – On Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m., Amyie Hope-Wright, 33, was driving on Washington Street with a right headlight out and no tail light lens. She told police she knew about it and was trying to have it fixed; and she mailed the fine and new insurance to DMV last week.

IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, OPERATING UNDER SUSPENSION, THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE PLATE, OPERATION WITHOUT INSURANCE – On Sept. 13 at 8:13 p.m., Stephen Rivas, 25, of Steele Street, Newtown, was driving a Nissan at Silver Street and Eastern Drive with a stolen plate in his back window. He had four active warrants.
