Middletown Arrests: Oct. 3-13

The following information was provided by state police the Middletown Police Department public information officer. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Middletown Police report the following incidents:

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER — On Oct. 13, Leilani Callands, 22, of White Street, Springfield, Mass., was at her girlfriend's home, the report says, where a protective order had been issued.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Oct. 13, Shawn E. Vare, 28, of deKoven Drive was at a home on Silver Street where police were called on a disturbance. Vare was putting items in his car and told police he and his girlfriend were in an argument and his toolbox fell over, the report says. The girlfriend said Vare spit in her face, she pushed him away and he slapped her in the back of the head, police say. He denied doing so.

SECOND-DEGREE HARASSMENT, VIOLATION RESTRAINING ORDER — On Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m., Middletown Police asked Newington Police to locate James Harmon, 33, of Miami Avenue, Newington, who had an outstanding warrant.

POSSESSION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE — On Oct. 11 at 6:44 p.m., a Chevy Cavalier was seen being driven on Union Street with an expired registration. With four people in the car, the officer saw a rear passenger throw an object out the window, the report says and both rear passengers shifting around. A search revealed copper scrubbers, cigarillo wrappers and a canine indicated the driver had drugs in her sweatshirt but none were found. The front passenger, Keith A. Zenz, 45, of no certain address, the report says had .3 grams of crack in his pants pocket.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF — On Oct. 11 at 3:44 p.m., police were called to Court Street on a threatening complaint in which a female victim said her baby's father, Shamell Bass, 25, of Oak Street, had slashed her Ford Explorer's tires, the report says. A witness confirmed her story. Bass later admitted, police say to slashing her two rear tires after they argued over another woman showing up at the home.

BREACH OF PEACE — On Oct. 11 at 8:25 p.m. a victim came into police headquarters reporting a domestic assault, saying on Oct. 10 at 8:30 p.m., he was at his home with his girlfriend, Tynette M. Goodwin, 29, of Grand Street and she had been drinking liquor and beer and was drunk, the report says. She accused him of cheating on her with her friend. The report says the male walked away and Goodwin choked him with both hands, he pushed her away and told her to go to sleep but he didn't leave because she was drunk and her 7-year-old son was asleep. Goodwin admitted to the argument and said only the male pushed her, police report.

FIRST- AND SECOND-DEGREE FAILURE TO APPEAR – On Oct. 11 at 3 p.m., Juan C. Camacho Jr., 19, of Tredeau Street, Hartford, was brought in by a bail bondsman on an outstanding warrant.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — On Oct. 9, Anthony J. Corral, 50, of Glouster Court, Newington, was driving on Grand and Main with a brake light out and a license suspended since July 2011.

FAILURE TO DISPLAY PLATES, RECKLESS DRIVING, ENGAGING POLICE IN PURSUIT, FAILURE TO DRIVE UPON RIGHT, DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD, INTERFERING WITH OFFICER, ILLEGAL SALE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, POSSESSION NARCOTICS, CRIMINAL IMPERSONATION — On Oct. 9 at 6:48 p.m., Christopher D. Huff, 26, of West Silver Street was seen by police driving on Randolph Road near Coe Avenue with dark tinted windows. Huff told police another name, but was recognized from previous incidents, the report says, and an outstanding warrant. A search revealed 2.4 grams of crack in a purse that was given to the passenger after police stopped Huff's car, the report says. There was $357 in cash found in the center console.

FALSELY REPORTING INCIDENT — On Oct. 6 at 12:42 p.m., Carletta Bennett, 32, of Burgundy Hill Lane called 911 reporting her car as stolen, the report says. Five minutes before, the report says, it was involved in a car accident on Route 9 in which the driver left the car and fled. Bennett told officers her live-in boyfriend, who had no license, had her car and was in an accident. "She didn't want to see him arrested so she decided to report the vehicle as stolen," police say.

DUI, FAILURE TO DRIVE IN PROPER LANE — On Oct. 5 at 11:01 p.m., police were called to a home on Cambridge Commons about a fight between a man and woman and the man, Daniel F. Foley, 49, of Arbor View Avenue, Waterford, had left while drunk in a car. The Hyundai Elantra was found by officers at the Sunoco Gas Station in Cromwell and seen driving erratically on Route 372, the report indicates. Police say Foley entered Middletown from East Street and drove all over the roadway. Alcohol was smelled on his breath and Foley told police later he had consumed some, the report says. He failed sobriety tests.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED, STOP SIGN VIOLATION — On Oct. 5 at 6:11 p.m., Erik Gustafson, 20, of Church Street, Portland, was driving on Prospect Street near Erin and failed to stop. The officer behind him stopped him and Gustafson said he was sorry.

OPERATION MOTOR VEHICLE WHEN LICENSE SUSPENDED — On Oct. 5 at 5:36 p.m., Franklyn Almonte, 33, of High Street was seen by police at the Rent-A-Center parking lot on deKoven Drive with a suspended license.

ILLEGAL OPERATION UNDER SUSPENSION, SPEEDING VIOLATION — On Oct. 3 at 10:18 p.m., William M. Brown, 20, of Inverness Lane, was seen by officers speeding on Camp Street at 64mph in a 35mph zone. The report says Brown acknowledged he was speeding but was not aware his license was suspended.
