Middletown HS Incident A Case Of 'Swatting:' Police
Middletown police said there was no real threat to the public at the school Wednesday afternoon.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Local police said a threat against Middletown High School Wednesday afternoon was a swatting incident and there were no real hazards to public safety there.
The Middletown Police Department Wednesday evening released more details about what happened earlier in the afternoon.
According to police, at about 2:33 p.m. Wednesday, the MPD received information through a third party that an anonymous person was threatening the safety of those at MHS, 200 Larosa Lane, Middletown.

As a result, police said the school was immediately placed in lockdown and area schools were advised to shelter in place.
"The Middletown Police Department takes the safety of all students and faculty very seriously and responded immediately," wrote the MPD in a statement.

Police said officers conducted a "methodical search of the school" and escorted everyone from the building.
After investigation, it was determined this was a “swatting” call aimed at disrupting the schools, wrote the MPD.
Police said it was similar to recent threats made in other areas of the state and there is no current threat to public safety.
"The case remains under investigation and the public will be updated if we obtain any information which might identify the suspect," wrote the MPD.
