Middletown Man Found Guilty Of Assault, Weapons Charges In Shooting

A Middletown man is facing sentencing in connection with a local shooting incident in 2021.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man is facing sentencing in early 2025 in connection with a local shooting incident, about four years after his arrest.

Middlesex Judicial District State's Attorney Michael A. Gailor Monday announced that a jury in Middletown Superior Court on Oct. 25 found Antwan Rufus, of Middletown, guilty of two counts of first-degree assault and a single count of carrying a pistol without a permit, along with possessing a weapon in a motor vehicle in connection with a 2021 shooting.

, in violation of Connecticut General Statutes § 29-38(a).

On Monday, Judge Laura F. Baldini also found Rufus guilty of two counts that were tried to the court — criminal possession of a firearm and criminal possession of a pistol.

According to case records, on May 1, 2021, Rufus, who previously had been convicted of a felony, shot and seriously wounded someone at Traverse Square in Middletown.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 16, 2025 in Middletown Superior Court.
