Middletown, Meriden Nursing Homes Fined by State for Patient Injuries

The two are among seven in Connecticut to receive fines recently from the state Department of Public Health.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Westfield Care & Rehabilitation in Meriden, and Wadsworth Glen Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middletown, were fined by the state a combined $3,700 for incidents at the facilities where patients suffered injuries, reports Connecticut Health I-Team.

At Westfield, a patient suffered two broken leg bones in May 2015, but the facility could not identify how it happened. The facility was fined $1,940 in connection with that and another incident, but a spokesperson for Westfield told I-Team in a statement that it constantly reviews procedures and practices and that "competencies" are "maintained."

A total of seven nursing homes in Connecticut were fined by the Department of Public Health following investigations, according to I-Team. The full list can be seen here.

Wadsworth was fined $1,740 in connection with a patient breaking their arm after an aide momentarily turned away while helping the patient, and failed to properly secure a shower chair.
