Middletown Woman Threatens to 'Shoot Up' Hospital Staff: Police

The woman is accused of threatening to come back and shoot members of the nursing staff after coming out of out-patient surgery.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown woman is accused of becoming physically combative and threatening to come back and shoot members of the nursing staff after coming out of anesthesia at the Middlesex Outpatient Surgery Center.

Janeen E. Shaw, 42, of 642 Main Street, was arrested for the May 17 incident in which police responded to the surgery center at 530 Saybrook Road on the reported threat.

The head nurse told police that Shaw had been brought out of her out-patient surgery and started to become verbally combative when the nurses asked her to remain in bed until she became more oriented after coming out of anesthesia, according to the police report.

Shaw then became physically combative and began hitting and punching the staff to get them away from her, the nurse told police.

Due to the increasing physical violence, the staff decided to let her leave and her husband was already there to bring her home after the surgery.

While she was changing her clothes, Shaw reportedly yelled throughout the large recovery room “I’m going to come back and shoot you up!,” according to the police report.

Before walking out the door, Shaw also said, “There are a lot of bad people in the world. Just so you know, I am one of those bad people!,” according to the report.

Authorities then determined Shaw to be a credible threat to come back and carry out a shooting inside the hospital so police went to her home to talk with her.

When an officer approached her, Shaw immediately said “Are you here because of what I said at the hospital? I was just really angry,” according to police.

Police said Shaw became aggravated and didn’t want to talk about the incident and at first refused to provide her ID but then threw it at an officer.

Shaw then attempted to run inside her house and had to be detained in handcuffs, police said.

During her arrest, Shaw said “I can’t take this. When I get out I am going to the Arrigoni Bridge to jump off!,” according to police.

Due to her suicidal statement, police had Shaw transported to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation.

Shaw was arrested on charges of second-degree threatening and breach of peace. She is due in court on June 1.
