Middletown Youth Fishing Derby

2017 Middletown Youth Fishing Derby Rules & Information. Saturday, April 29th (rain or shine event)

1. Middletown Residents Only. 250 maximum enrollment. First come first served. Same day registration begins at 7:30
2. Only those ages 4 -14 on the day of the event may participate.
3. All participants must be registered and only registered participants may fish
4. No fishing before 8:30 am. Fishing begins at 8:30 am and contest ends promptly at 10:30 am
5. Children must be accompanied by an adult and that adult must be within arm’s reach of the child at all times or the child may be disqualified
6. Adults may help with baiting and casting ONLY or the child may be disqualified
7. Weigh In closes promptly at 10:30 am (be sure to get to the weigh station in time)
8. Observe and respect other people around you
9. Fish need to be weighed and measured right after they are caught
10. Only use bait that is provided or live bait
11. No lures
12. Only one pole per child may be used
13. All fish that will not be cleaned and taken home to be eaten must be returned to the pond
14. No limit on catch and release
15. Fish must be caught from shore
16. Prizes will be awarded beginning approximately 10:45 am
17. Winners need to be present to claim their awards
18. One prize per participant except for the raffle
19. Some fishing poles available to borrow.
20. Only Rainbow and Brook Trout will be cleaned & prepared at the cleaning station. 2 trout take home/child limit.
21. DEEP Regulations for minimum length to keep: Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass 12”, Chain Pickerel 15”, Northern Pike 26”, Striped Bass 28”, Walleye 18”
22. The organizers reserve the right to amend, add to, remove or otherwise change any of the rules and regulations for the contest, without prior notice, if it is deemed by them to be in the best interest of all parties involved in the derby
23. There are currently no limits or restrictions on the consumption of trout in the State of CT
24. Any non-fish species (such as turtles) must be returned safely to the pond
Awards will be given to 1st , 2nd and 3rd place in the following divisions:
Heaviest Trout
Longest Trout
-All prizes must be accepted as awarded and have no surrender value
-Winners need to be present to claim their awards when their name is called or forfeit the award
-One prize per participant (except for the raffle)
All winners will get a medal and a $10 Certificate
Raffle
We will raffle off four (4) gift certificates for a fishing trip on board the Black Hawk out of Niantic. Each certificate is good for one child and one adult (worth $110)!
-All pre-registered children have a ticket in the raffle bowl/box.
-Winners and their parent or guardian must be present to accept the certificate when the name is called or we will pull another ticket.
-Winners will be announced at approximately 10:35 am.
