Middletown's K9 Unit Praises Dogs for Locating Suspect

A home invasion suspect was forced out of the woods by the K-9 units and apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Midmorning on Sunday, July 12, 2015, a 23-year-old black male wanted on felony charges for an alleged home invasion/assault was spotted in the area on Bailey Road in Middletown, CT.

Patrol Officers along with Ofc. Maio and his partner, K-9 Judge responded to said area. Upon arrival, residents flagged down Officers and stated that the suspect had just fled the area on foot.

Ofc. Maio and Judge, along with other Patrol Officers engaged the suspect in a foot chase through a wooded area. Officer lost sight of the suspect but were able to contain the him in a wooded area by Middletown High School.

At this time, Ofc. D’Aresta and his partner, K-9 Hunter arrived on scene to assist. The K-9 Units began to track in this heavy and dense wooded area. During the course of the search, K-9 Hunter recovered one of the suspect’s sneakers. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was forced out of the woods by the K-9 Units to the perimeter teams and was apprehended after another brief foot chase.

The approximate distance covered was about 1.5 miles and the duration of the search lasted about 1.5 hours in very hot & humid conditions. The dogs performed great and it’s always amazing to observe the dog’s drive & motivation to work in these uncomfortable weather conditions.

It was a great joint effort and teamwork by everyone involved; to include the MPD Patrol Division, MPD Motorcycle Unit, MPD Marine Unit and Portland PD.
