MIDDLETOWN, CT — Police have identified Brooke Rich, 41, of Middletown, as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle that fled the scene Wednesday night in Middletown. The crash happened just after 9 p.m. when a dark-colored vehicle that was heading west on Route 66/Washington Street hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road at the intersection of High Street, according to Lt. Heather Desmond.

The vehicle fled the scene, continuing westbound on Route 66 and was possibly heading down West Street. Rich died from her injuries, according to Desmond.

“The Middletown Police Department would like to send our condolences to Brooke’s family and friends,” Desmond said.

Police have a vehicle of interest that they believe was involved in the hit-and-run, according to Desmond.

“Witnesses at the scene say there was a second vehicle that made contact with the victim after the initial impact,” Desmond said. “We are looking for that vehicle and operator. The operator may be able to provide more information regarding the accident.”
