WALLINGFORD, CT — Popular Wallingford doughnut shop Neil’s Donuts has announced plans to open a second location in Middletown this summer.

ā€œThe rumors are 99% true!!,ā€ Neil’s Donuts wrote in a post on Facebook Tuesday. ā€œThere is no contract signed, but we are hopefully opening a second location summer 2020! Please have patience as this is a long process, and when we have a better timeframe we will update everyone!ā€

The new shop will be located at 211 South Main St. in Middletown. Neil’s is well-known for its New York-style donuts and bakery items. In addition to its famous donuts, Neil’s serves pastries, Danish, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and other baked goods. It is located at 83 North Turnpike Rd. in the Yalesville section of Wallingford.

Owner Neil Bukowski told the Meriden Record-Journal that they’ve been working on the new Middletown location for about six months. The Middletown location will be about 1,000-square-feet larger than the original in Wallingford and will have a drive-thru, according to the Record-Journal. It will also focus mainly on donuts, muffins, coffee and breakfast sandwiches and not the additional items currently available at the Wallingford location.

The development should help Middletown doughnut lovers overcome the loss of The Rolling Doughnut last May. The Rolling Doughnut, a food truck featuring fresh-made gourmet doughnuts, was widely popular in Middletown but owner Scott Gordon announced last May that his family decided to move out of state.
