MIDDLETOWN, CT — Quick-thinking citizens helped save residents who had to leap from a burning home in Middletown, authorities said.

The fire on Dunham Avenue broke out at about 8 p.m. Sunday and callers reported that people might be trapped in an upstairs apartment. A responding South District crew encountered heavy fire at the home, officials said.

Four people living on the second floor were saved after they jumped out of windows, fire officials said. Two of them were children, who were caught by neighbors. A woman was also caught by neighbors, fire officials said. All three were not seriously injured, but were taken to Middlesex Hospital for smoke-related concerns, fire officials said.
