1 Killed In Serious Crash In Middletown: Police

One driver was killed and another was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Middletown, according to police.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — One driver was killed and another was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Middletown, according to police.

Police responded to the 1000 block of Washington Street around 4:30 p.m. on the report of a serious motor vehicle crash with injuries. Arriving officers found two vehicles in the road that were heavily damaged, according to police.

One driver was trapped inside his 2015 Chevy Sonic sedan and the other driver was found in the roadway near his 2015 Nissan Altima sedan, police said.

Middletown Fire, Hunter's Ambulance, and Middlesex Hospital Paramedics all responded to the scene.

The driver of the Chevy Sonic was identified as 59-year-old Jeffrey Reitmeier of Washington Street in Middletown, according to police.

Police said Reitmeier was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 45-year-old driver of the Nissan Altima was taken to Hartford Hospital for injuries that weren’t life-threatening and was listed in stable condition, according to police.

The crash is being investigated by the Middletown Police Traffic Division. Washington Street is closed between Camp Street and Ballfall Road, but should reopen around 8 p.m., according to police.

“Our sincerest condolences go out to the Reitmeier family and friends for their loss,” police wrote in a news release.
