MIDDLETOWN, CT — Four people were injured in a two-alarm fire early Friday morning in Middletown, according to multiple reports. Multiple crews responded to the fire on Saybrook Road, according to fire officials.

WTNH News 8 reports the fire was reported around 6:20 a.m. and involved some sort of explosion. At least three people were taken to the hospital with injuries, according to WTNH News 8.

Officials at the scene initially said two elderly people were at the house, NBC Connecticut reports.

The fire destroyed a home in the 1600 block of Saybrook Road. The Middletown Press reports LifeStar was called to take the burn victims to Bridgeport Hospital, but couldn’t land due to substandard weather conditions.

“Thank you to South Fire District Firefighters IAFF Local 3918 as well as Hunter's Ambulance and the 10+ mutual aid departments (including Middletown and Westfield) who responded to this morning’s house fire on Saybrook Road,” Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim wrote in a post on Facebook. “The rapid response times of the tanker trucks allowed a very serious blaze to be contained quickly while assistance was given to people who were injured.

“Four victims are hospitalized with burn injuries at this time. We are praying for their safe recovery.”
