Bullet Strikes Food Pantry In Middletown: Police

Police are investigating after the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at each other Monday afternoon in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A bullet struck a food pantry while the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at each other Monday afternoon in Middletown, according to police.

Police received initial reports of the shooting in the area of Rome Avenue and Stack Street around 1:30 p.m.

“Officers responded immediately but one caller reported that both vehicles had already left the area prior to police arrival,” police wrote in a news release. “Patrol Officers immediately identified that there was no immediate threat to the public and Detectives from the Major Investigations Unit were called to the scene for processing.

“Preliminary findings suggest that two vehicles were traveling north on Rome Avenue. The occupant(s) of the rear vehicle began to shoot at the vehicle in front of him/her. After the gunfire ended, one suspect vehicle turned east onto Stack Street and the second vehicle turned west onto Stack Street.”

It isn’t known if the gunfire struck any of the involved vehicles, according to police.

Police said it appears to be an isolated incident with the occupant(s) of one vehicle targeting the occupants of the other vehicle.

Detectives determined that one bullet struck the door to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry at 16 Stack Street, but there are no reported injuries from the incident, according to police.
