Portland Action Alert -- Possible Sidewalk & Tree Removals An important public hearing on the $1 Million Portland Sidewalks Project will take place at the Portland Library (Mary Flood Room) on Wed. Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. The Sidewalk Committee is considering sidewalk replacements on key streets near the village center, as well as the possibility of removing sidewalks on the east side of East Main Street, the north side of Freestone Avenue between East Main St. and Cross St., and on one side of Waverly Avenue east of East Main. Also under consideration is the removal of a number of large but damaged, aged, or unhealthy trees along these streets when new sidewalks are installed.. The Sidewalk Committee and the Board of Selectmen need public input, especially from those who live in the area, to decide these important matters.
