Southington Man Charged In Middletown Fake 'Semi Truck' Sale: Warrant

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A warrant out of Middletown accuses a 33-year-old man of orchestrating the fake sale of a "semi truck."
Jason Bednarz, whose listed address on law enforcement records is in Southington, has been charged with second-degree telephone fraud, second-degree larceny and interfering with police. He posted a $50,000 bond and is due for arraignment in Middletown on May 20, judicial; system records show.
According to a warrant, on April 14, Middletown police received a complaint via the Ottawa County Sherrif's Office in Michigan about a resident there who claimed to have purchased a Kenworth "semi truck" from Bednarz, an associate of Stanley & Sons Services in Middletown, through an online marketplace.

The Michigan resident claimed to have paid $36,000 for the truck, but had never received delivery.
Bendarz told investigators that he did not have the truck because it had been "impounded" in another state, possible "Virginia" (and later "West Virginia), but a trace on the truck led to a L:Ong Island Address with a reference to it not being sold, according to a warrant.

Meanwhile, the Connecticut Department Of Motor Vehicles told Middletown that Stanley & Sons did not possess a license to work on commercial vehicles, according to a warrant.
Bednarz insisted trhat he tried to pay the money back, but investigators found tyransactions listed as "failed," according top a warrant.
Some attempts apparently went through, but court papers list a payback liability at $17,600.
A warrant also termed Bednarz "a convicted felon."
