One Dead in Middletown Crash: UPDATE

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-car crash, according to Middletown Police.

MIDDLETOWN, CT (UPDATE)— One person was killed in a three-car crash in Middletown on Thursday evening, according to police.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Newfield Street and Fisher Road at about 6:54 p.m.

A Toyota Camry was traveling north on Newfield Street, believed to be stopped to make a left turn on to Fisher Road, police said in a press release.

A Honda Pilot, traveling directly behind the Toyota collided rear-ended the Toyota, which spun around into the southbound lane of Newfield Street where it was struck for a second time (in the rear end) by a Volkswagen Passat traveling southbound, according to police.

The Toyota came to rest on east side of Newfield Street at the intersection of Fisher Road. The male operator of the Toyota Camry was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

“The operator of the Honda was transported to the hospital for injuries received during the crash, as well as the operator of the Volkswagen,” police said in the press release. “The passenger of the Volkswagen did not claim any injuries. No children were involved.

“The identities of all involved parties are being withheld at this time. The extent of the injuries of the survivors is unknown.”

Newfield Street and Fisher Road remain closed that this time (around 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8) while the Traffic Investigators process the accident scene taking measurements and pictures to document the incident.

The investigation will continue to determine if there were any violations of the Connecticut State Statutes, according to police.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Emergency crews are on the scene of a three-car motor vehicle accident with serious injuries in the area of Newfield Street and Fisher Road, according to Middletown firefighters.

The road is shut down in that area, according to police.

Fire officials are advising motorists to avoid the area as the Middletown Police Department investigates the crash.
