Today's Environmental Cleanup Was At Veterans Memorial Park

Also the Coginchaug River

Today, 50 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God carried out an environmental cleanup at Veterans Memorial Park and the Coginchaug River in Middletown. They also watered all the trees honoring the fallen heroes of Ct. The effort is part of the Church’s multi-state East Coast Volunteer Service Day 2016.

“Veterans Memorial Park is an important resource for our neighborhood,” said Church of God volunteer Karen Gubbins. “We hope that by giving a helping hand, we’ll be able to contribute towards enhancing the historic landscape of the park so everyone in the community can enjoy it peacefully.” The Park Division of Middletown provided the volunteers with rubber gloves, trash bags, and a dumpster truck. Volunteers brought their own rakes and additional supplies to carry out the task.

Church of God volunteers cleaned up all areas of the park including the playgrounds:

The East Coast Volunteer Service Day 2016 is part of a multi-state public awareness campaign emphasizing the importance of volunteerism. This past summer, the Church of God received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service — the most prestigious award for volunteer activities in the United Kingdom. This motivated Church of God members around the world to continue serving their local communities through volunteerism. Activities are taking place in 24 other locations on the East Coast and even Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
