Crews Continue To Work On Water Main Break In Middletown: UPDATE

A major water main break impacted the downtown area in Middletown on Friday.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — City officials released the following update around 8:45 p.m. on the major water main break in Middletown:

Crews will be working through the night and into tomorrow to identify and repair the broken pipe and temporarily repave the intersection.

Officials also said a water main break can “cause higher than normal flows and scour the inside of water mains and stir up harmless sediment that can cause discolored water.”

“This is not a health concern but if you are experiencing discolored water we do not recommend you use the washing machine, the dishwasher, or other water-using devices until the water has cleared,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “You should also refrain from drinking the water until it is clear as it will be neither aesthetically pleasing nor good tasting.

“Discolored water can be cleared by running the cold 🧊 🧊 water tap for a couple of minutes.

“If the water doesn’t clear after a short period, or if you have specific concerns, please contact the water department at 860.638.3500.”

(Original post): MIDDLETOWN, CT — A major water main break is impacting the downtown area in Middletown, according to officials.

The water main break is at the intersection of Main Street and Court Street.

Main Street is blocked from Washington Street to College Street.

“A large part of the City is currently out of water,” officials wrote in a post on the City of Middletown Professional Firefighters Local 1073 union’s Facebook page. “For us, we have taken precautions and notified surrounding departments that if there is a fire, their respective Tankers will be automatically requested. The Water Dept is on scene and currently mitigating the problem. It is unknown at this time when water will be restored.”

Police are advising motorists to use Broad Street and DeKoven Drive to "navigate around the impacted area."
