Farewell Letter to the Waterford Police Department Chief Marc Balestracci

Dear Waterford Police Department: it's indeed a great distinct privilege and honor to be the one to write this farewell Letter to the people of Waterford Connecticut and the Waterford Police Department Chief Marc Balestracci will be retiring in a few months after 25 years of service to the people of Waterford Connecticut and the Waterford Police Department.

I will be retiring from the Waterford Police Department after 25 years of service. Serving as your Chief of Police for the last four years has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life.

This decision did not come easily. The department is operating at an incredibly high level, and the Town of Waterford has been nothing short of fantastic to my family and me. Walking away from a profession and a community that have given us so much is incredibly difficult.

However, I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished together over the past four years. The dedication, professionalism, and commitment of our officers and staff are second to none, and because of their hard work, the department is stronger than ever and well positioned for continued success. None of this would have been possible without the tremendous support we have received from the residents of Waterford, our elected officials and others we have worked with over the years whose trust and partnership have been invaluable.

Some may disagree, but in my opinion, policing remains one of the best jobs on the planet. It allows ordinary people like myself to experience things most never will, meet people they otherwise would never cross paths with, and have a meaningful impact on their community, which is incredibly rewarding. I am grateful beyond words for the experiences, friendships, and life lessons this profession has given me.

It has been a privilege to serve alongside such an outstanding group of men and women and to serve the Waterford community for the past 25 years. I thank you for the opportunity and hope that I was able to live up to the expectations of my position.

Over the next couple of months, I will be working with the Waterford Board of Police Commissioners as well as department leadership, to assist in the transition to the next Waterford Chief of Police.

It's my honor and a privilege to see a great man effectively lead the men and women of the Waterford Police Department. Join me here today as I say farewell to Chief Marc Balestracci and thank you for your 25 years of dedicated service and police work to the city of Waterford Connecticut and the Waterford Police Department. Your watch has ended we will take the watch from here. Thank you very much and stay safe we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors. Stay safe godspeed and congratulations on your retirement Chief.
