An argument started between the two and it escalated, police said.

McKnight is accused of then taking a hammer out of the man’s toolbox and “assaulting” the truck, including smashing the front windshield, driver’s side window and scratching the entire driver’s side of the truck, according to the police report.

The man also had a small scratch on his forehead but told police he was unsure of how it happened.

Police said the two had been in a relationship for about 13 years and have a 9-year-old daughter together. They moved into the residence together about a week ago with the intent to purchase it, according to the report.

No children were present during the attack on the truck, police said.

After the incident, the man agreed with McKnight that he should get all of his belongings and move back with his parents and not return to the residence.

McKnight was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace. She was released at the scene and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
