Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Fairfield County

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of southern Connecticut.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for North Central Fairfield County in southern Connecticut until 7 p.m.

At 601 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Pine Plains to Millbrook to near Pleasant Valley to Marlboro, moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

Severe thunderstorms will be near...

Sherman around 620 PM EDT.

New Fairfield around 640 PM EDT.

Brookfield around 650 PM EDT.


UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for both Fairfield and New Haven counties until 10 p.m.


SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service says we should be prepared for strong-to-severe thunderstorms between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday.

"The main threats are damaging winds and frequent lightning. Stay weather-aware and keep an eye on the radar if you have outdoor plans!" the weather service said.

The weather service posted a hazardous weather outlook message for southern Connecticut.

"Thunderstorms are possible late today and this evening across the area and could be strong to severe. Any thunderstorm could produce frequent lightning and contain damaging winds," according to the weather service.

For coastal sections of southern Connecticut, the weather service said showers and storms are most likely before 11 p.m., but there is a less likely chance up until 2 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe.

For inland sections of southern Connecticut, the weather service said showers and storms are most likely before 11 p.m. and again cautioned that some of the storms could be severe.
