Speeding Camera Results Are In After First Weeks In Milford

MILFORD, CT — The Milford Police Department is touting the efficacy of speeding cameras, which were installed in the city last month.

"In the first 6 weeks since implementing speed safety cameras in Milford school zones and other designated areas, speeding violations have decreased program wide by 80%!" the department posted on Facebook.

"That's more drivers slowing down and safer roads for our students, pedestrians, cyclists, and everyone who travels through our community."

The speeding cameras were installed in high-traffic areas and school zones, including the following:

• Boston Post Road North off I-95 S Exit 39
• 200 block of Woodruff Road
• The Academy School Zone, 100 block of Gulf St.
• Live Oaks Elementary School Zone, 500 block of Merwin Ave.
• West Shore Middle School Zone, 500 block of Milford Road
• Platt Technical School Zone, 500 block of Orange Ave.

The city also installed red-light cameras recently.

The cameras have proved controversial across the state, with some saying that they could lead to privacy violations.
