Food, friends and free tennis were the theme of the day as Milford Indoor Tennis hosted its second Open House on March 23rd from 5:30-7:30 pm. With support from the United States Tennis Association (USTA), the Milford Indoor Tennis Open House served as a Youth Tennis Event to support the USTA initiative to help engage kids in lifelong physical activity.
The tennis teaching professionals of Milford Indoor Tennis led the group of fifty community members through a variety of programs that are among the many offerings that are available at the club. Cardio Tennis and Point Play were the featured programs of the day. Cardio Tennis is a high energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise, delivering the ultimate, full body, calorie burning aerobic workout. Point Play consists of various games that feature strategy and tactics while technique is not emphasized.
Another featured event for attendees was a prize court where all participants had an opportunity to take additional prizes home. T-shirts, water bottles, hats, grips, and many other items were up for grabs as contestants took their best shot to hit a prize. StarGames LLC, the event management company for the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden, donated event shirts to help support the free community event. Food donations were also provided by BJs Wholesale Club. Val Collison, manager of Milford Indoor Tennis, offered a “Thank you to the USTA, StarGames and BJs Wholesale Club for their support of our event. It is great to know we have support in our community.”

“It was great to see so many community members come out to the club to play and be able to try some of the programs that we have to offer,” said Collison. “We are a full service tennis club, and we want our community to know we are here to provide them with high quality instructional programs and fun health and fitness opportunities.” Participants were able to meet the tennis teaching professionals and other staff members of the club. “I love getting to interact with our customers,” said Rob Gurden, new Director of Tennis. “These types of events are the best way to get to meet and greet with new and existing players.”
