Prosecutors asked for more information from police after they applied for an arrest warrant, but it wasn't resubmitted, according to the DCJ

MILFORD, CT — Police applied for an arrest warrant for murder suspect Ewen Dewitt in November, but it was returned by prosecutors who requested more information. Police didn’t resubmit the application, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice
Julie Minogue was attacked and killed Tuesday night by Dewitt in the presence of two of her children, according to police. Dewitt was taken into custody Wednesday and held in lieu of $5 million bail. The two were in a prior dating relationship, according to police.
Minogue told police about 220 harassing text messages that Dewitt sent her over the past month, according to Hearst CT Media.

Minogue was separately granted a full no-contact restraining order against Dewitt on Dec. 1. A protective order was also issued by Superior Court after Dewitt was charged with assaulting Minogue in 2019. The 2019 criminal case is pending; Dewitt was released after posting a $20,000 bond, according to court records.
Officers went to a Salem Walk residence Tuesday around 9 p.m. after getting a 911 call from Minogue’s son, who said his mother was being assaulted by a man, police said.
“The first arriving officers cleared the residence and discovered that the suspect had fled prior to their arrival,” police said in a statement. “The victim was found deceased inside the home.”
Police believe an axe was used in the attack, but are awaiting confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Minogue’s 3-year-old child was located in the home physically unharmed, police said. Both children are in the care of family members.
