CONNECTICUT — The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the state on Tuesday, as winds will increase and it could lead to an "elevated risk of fire spread."

For southern Connecticut, the weather service wrote, "Northwesterly winds gusting 20-25 mph will combine with relative humidities dropping below 30 percent this afternoon to produce an elevated risk of fire spread for southern Connecticut."

And for northern Connecticut, the weather service wrote, "An elevated fire weather potential is expected today for all of southern New England. This is due to a combination of relative humidities dropping between 15 to 25 percent this afternoon, and northwest winds gusting between 25 to 35 mph. There may be a few isolated gusts up to 40 mph across the higher terrain."

Rain arrives Wednesday evening and sticks around on Thursday and tapers off by early Friday. High temperatures on Wednesday will only be in the 40s.

"Expect rain to develop by the evening hours, continuing overnight. Scattered showers could persist, especially across the eastern half of the CWA, on Thursday.

"Additional moisture may develop and move through Thursday night in response to upper-level forcing and nearby secondary low development, but the exact placement and timing of this still needs to be resolved," the weather service said.

Up to 2 inches of rain may fall during this time period for Connecticut, the weather service wrote.

And much cooler weather emerges on Sunday and Monday, with high temperatures only reaching into the mid 40s. Keep those warm jackets nearby.
