Downtown Milford to see Changes in the Next Five Years: Report
Milford hopes to build houses, offices, retail and other amenities all within a walkable neighborhood near the train station.

MILFORD, CT — The next five years will bring many changes to the area near the downtown Milford train station, as a new committee works to transform the region into a transit-oriented development, or TOD. A TOD is a community development that includes housing, offices, retail and other amenities all within a walkable neighborhood, located a half-mile from quality public transportation, Milford Mirror reports.
The state provided $150,000 to fund a site plan and market analysis of the area around River and High streets. A meeting was held by Geoffrey Fitzgerald, the manager and civil engineering principal for BL Companies, on Monday night at Milford City Hall.
At the meeting, Economic Development Director Julie Nash said it may take four or five years for a plan to get approval, for Milford to raise additional funds and for construction to happen.

Mayor Ben Blake shared his ideas for downtown, such as building a key tenant like a grocery store or an Apple store where Corner Convenience currently is. He also thinks a low parking garage near the train station would be fitting for the area.
Milford's transit district director, Henry Jadach, has faith that the city will complete the transformation as quickly as they can.
