For those of us who have to work today, it feels more like a Monday coming off of the big Thanksgiving holiday, but thankfully it is Friday and the weekend is tomorrow.

The following are the 2021 Thanksgiving holiday traffic statistics, according to state police

  • Calls for Service: 1,139
  • Speeding Violations: 72
  • Seatbelt Violations: 0
  • Other Hazardous Violations: 81 (to include unsafe lane change, following too closely, cell phone usage, etc.)
  • DUI Arrests: 12
  • Accidents Investigated: 62
  • With Reported Injuries: 12
  • Serious Injuries: 0
  • Fatalities: 1

Details on the fatal accident during the holiday time period

Quincy Rahim Hankerson, 20, of East Hartford, was killed in a one car accident on Route 2 in East Hartford, according to state police.

State police said Hankerson was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old that was traveling on Route 2 westbound, east of Exit 4, in the right/center lane of four around 1 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.

For an unknown reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle, state police said. The car crossed the highway to the left and struck the metal beam guide rail on the median, officials said.

The driver suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The passenger, Hankerson, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision, state police said. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
