Man Charged After 3-Day Standoff With Milford Police Ends
Milford police took the 49-year-old "barricaded subject" into custody Friday afternoon.
MILFORD, CT — A 49-year-old man with possible mental health issues who engaged in a three-day armed standoff with Milford police was taken into custody and charged Friday, according to a news release from authorities.
On Wednesday shortly after midnight, Charles Aungst of 301 Bridgeport Ave. called the police and told them he was locked in his second-floor apartment. According to police, Aungst said he fired a shot at the door lock in an attempt to escape the apartment.
Milford officers arrived at Aungst's apartment and saw him in a window carrying what authorities believes to be a shotgun or long gun. Officers made several attempts to contact Aungst, but he did not respond, police said.

Authorities eventually obtained an arrest warrant for Aungst and a search warrant for his home.
At 3 p.m. Friday, police said the "barricaded subject" was taken into custody. According to authorities, Aungst walked out of the apartment on his own before he was arrested.

Officers searched Aungst's apartment and found a loaded shotgun, several shotgun rounds, a loaded revolver, a taser, a crossbow with arrows, and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, Milford police said.
Aungst is charged with interfering with an officer and unlawful discharge. He's being held in jail on $100,000 bond.
