Man Tries to Lure Young Child Into His Vehicle in Milford: Police

Police say they are investigating an attempted child abduction that was reported Tuesday morning as a child was walking to the bus stop.

MILFORD, CT — A scary situation in Milford Tuesday morning as police say a man in an SUV tried to lure a young child into his vehicle as the youth was walking to the bus stop, police said. Police are searching for the suspect.

The Milford Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious incident that occurred on Feb. 28 at 7:30 a.m. on Baxter Lane near Apple Jack Lane, police said.

A male driving an early 2000’s white BMW SUV with dice on the rear view mirror and flames on the rims, tried luring an 11-year-old child into his vehicle while the child was walking to the bus stop, police said in a news release.

The male claimed to be a family friend and asked the child to open the rear hatch to the vehicle and grab an item that was in the vehicle, police said. The child ran to a friend’s house nearby and the male speed off towards New Haven Avenue, police said.

The male was described as white, approximately 25-30 years old with brown/black hair, police said.

In a statement, the Milford Public Schools said, "Last evening, February 28, 2017, the Milford Public Schools was made aware of a suspicious encounter involving a student. A student was walking to a bus stop on Baxter Lane near Applejack Lane at approximately 7:30 am when a male operating a vehicle approached her. The male attempted to engage the student in conversation and asked her to get something out of his vehicle. The student ran from the area to an acquaintance’s home.

"The police department initiated an investigation yesterday evening after meeting with the student. Police are continuing with their investigation and have provided an extra police presence in the area. The Milford Public Schools will continue to collaborate with the Milford Police Department regarding this matter. As always, the safety of our students is our highest priority. We encourage you to speak with your children about the importance of reporting suspicious activities to a trusted adult and school officials," the schools statement reads.
