Decision Made Concerning St. Gabriel School's Future: Report
Archdiocese officials confirm that a decision has been made.

UPDATE
The New Haven Register reports that St. Gabriel School in Milford will close in June for good, and it was confirmed to the Register by Dale Hoyt, who is superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Hartford.
The decision was based on finances, birthrate and demographics and had nothing to do with academics, Hoyt told the Register’s Ed Stannard.

The school had a $111,709 operating deficit, and just 139 enrolled students, the Milford Mirror reports.
There was talk of a merger between St. Mary’s School and St. Gabriel School but in the end that was decided against. However, St. Mary’s will offer annual $500 scholarships for two years to any St. Gabriel student who transfers to St. Mary’s School.

Original report: An informational meeting is being held 6:30 p.m. tonight (Jan. 26) at the Parish Hall at St. Gabriel School to discuss the “future of St. Gabriel School,” reports the Milford Mirror.
One parent told the Mirror some parents are worried that the pre-K-8 private school may be closing due to financial concerns, but church officials denied that.
The church bulletin only says that the meeting is to discuss the future of the school, and no other details were shared.
Despite that some parents are already planning to fight to keep their school open.
St. Ann School closed five years ago.
