Milford Police Officer Attacked During Street Takeover

A police officer was struck and fireworks and M-80s were set off at his vehicle during a street takeover this past weekend, police said.

MILFORD, CT — A police officer was hospitalized following an attack during a street takeover in Milford on Saturday.

Police released new details Tuesday regarding the street takeover. Police responded to the Stop & Shop parking lot at 855 Bridgeport Ave. early Saturday morning.

The parking lot was occupied by several vehicles and more than 100 spectators.

The responding officer checked on a small fire that was the result of fireworks and M-80s being set off. While the officer was making the check, he was surrounded and hit, punched, and had an unknown object thrown at his head.

He suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. He has since been released.

Fireworks and M-80s were also set off at the officer's patrol vehicle. The vehicle was also hit and jumped on, causing minor damage, police said.

Police also released a video of the incident Tuesday.

In West Haven, another street takeover was attempted early Saturday. Six people were charged after throwing fireworks at police officers in the incident, according to police.
