MILFORD, CT — News surfaced recently concerning the fact Connecticut Post Mall owners are hoping to get approval from the city of Milford to turn a portion of its massive mall property at 1201 Boston Post Road into luxury apartments.

The apartments would be built near the Sears Auto Body Center building and would include 300 units and a fitness center and pool.

Milford's officials hate the idea and instead would like to see offices or medical lab/office space. Plans are expected to be filed in September.

Here is a sampling of the feedback we received from Milford residents:

"I think it's a horrible idea. Route 1 is already too dense and crowded during the holiday season. What's a few more hundred folks, transiting the Post Road to get to/from home, adding to automotive chaos. From a zoning perspective, how can this even be under consideration. The mall is a commercial building. How can it possibly be deemed suitable for residential occupancy. Seems like a scheme to get realtors and developers rich, with no consideration to the community. I say no to this plan," Michael S. wrote.

Shirley Nowinski took a different approach and wrote, "I think its worth consideration. Many malls are empty eyesores and some of them are successfully being adapted to office and or living spaces. Whatever committee is looking into it should look at other places for impact insight before making a recommendation either way. Would impact on schools, transportation, emergency services, recreational areas, traffic and taxes."

Kim F. shared some concerns about the proposal. "I agree with Michael about the traffic, on top of that, to be clear it wouldn't be in the mall it'd be a new construct back where the Sears auto place was. Part of what I love about Milford is the small community feel and all these apartment buildings going up all over are taking away that charm."

Nicole Immidiato said "Malls are unfortunately not going to last. There will have to be considerations made for traffic, but overall I love the idea. Not the best view, or noise level with 95 right there, but Norwalk and Stamford have the same issue with luxury apartments they've built. Would love to see plans on how everything will be configured, considering they will need to incorporate stores as well."
