MILFORD – If you’ve heard a rumbling downtown and across the city, it’s the Milford United Way organization as they launch their Annual Pledge Campaign for 2025.

The organization has been a long-standing support organization for Milford residents since 1957 – and is proud to be a partner with nearly two dozen organizations and agencies that help the community. This year, the MUW has set a goal of $500,000 in donations and pledges -- funds that will continue to serve Milford residents in need.

According to a recently released ALICE in the Crosscurrents report from United Way Worldwide, nearly 3 out of 10 households in Milford are defined as ALICE – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. ALICE households are comprised of families who, although employed, are struggling to meet the most basic of monthly needs. To that end, the Milford United Way has pledged to focus on the areas of highest need in our community: food insecurity, unstable housing, and mental health/wellness support.

Kathy Bonetti, the new director of the organization, says the response to local UW initiatives over the past few months has been astounding and hopes the momentum continues in the form of donations for the coming year.

“Speaking as a lifelong Milford resident, I can confidently say the Milford United Way has touched someone you know – whether in the form of our diaper bank, emergency services, assistance for the work of our partner agencies, and much more. Over the years, the Milford United Way has been ‘front and center’ when help is needed – whether for large scale emergency situations such as relief after Storm Sandy – or for ‘invisible’ support that we provide for families in desperate need.”

The organization counts on the charitable donations of Milford residents and the corporate/business/city environments that support the cause. A special informational brochure, along with a pledge card, was recently distributed to every household and business in the city. An online option is also available via the UW website at milfordunitedway.org.

“We are grateful for the incredible generosity of our fellow community members,” Bonetti said. “Every donation is used to help our neighbors right here in our hometown. We can think of no greater way to support the ‘Small City with a Big Heart’ and we thank you, in advance, for your gift.” If you have any questions, please contact the Milford United Way at (203) 874-6791.
