New Long-Range Connecticut February Forecast Released
The National Weather Service has released its long-range forecast for the first half of February and you may be surprised.
CONNECTICUT — It looks like we can put the snow shovels away, retire the winter jacket and start getting our spring attire ready soon. A winter that has been largely lackluster is expected to continue through at least the first half of February, according to a new report by the National Weather Service.
The US National Weather Service in Boston, MA said this morning that "[Extended Forecast] while it's cold this morning all indications are for above normal temperatures to persist along the East Coast including MA, RI and CT into at least the first 10 days or so of February."
It's actually even more pronounced than that. From Feb. 1 through Feb. 8, the weather service shows temps will be far above normal on average. Connecticut will see temps rise into the 50s next week. No snow is in the forecast. Another rainstorm is possible by the middle of next week as temps will be in the upper 40s.

It appears that we'll be a bit cooler but still above normal from Feb. 9 through the middle of the month, according to the weather service. The Weather Channel backs up the National Weather Service and shows daytime temperatures in Connecticut remaining well above freezing each day from Feb. 1 through Feb. 13.

What About that Weekend Snow Chance?
Again, all signs point to the low pressure system staying offshore and Connecticut may not even see a raindrop or snowflake this weekend.
"The best chance for any of the area to see precipitation would be coastal locations, though it is possible that the entire region remains dry. ... With the lack of cold air in place, it is likely that any precipitation that does fall will be primarily rain. Any snow that does fall, little, if any accumulation is expected with surface temperatures into the upper 30s and low 40s."
"Surface high pressure starts building back into the region for the end of the weekend and Monday. The next system looks to approaches mid-week as an elongated area of low pressure that moves north of the region, but models have disagreement as to the exact timing and placement of the system. Temperatures will remain at or above normal through the long term period," the weather service states.
