Obituary: Claire M. Calderone, 82, Of Milford

MILFORD, CT — Claire M. Calderone, 82, of Milford, CT, beloved wife of Gaspar “Cappy” Calderone for 62 years, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side on February 28, 2024. Born on April 16, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Kathleen Charles.

Claire loved life. From her early years as a straight A student, to a lifeguard at Jones Beach, then falling in love with Cappy in Bethpage, Long Island, she constantly reinvented herself and never sat still. After marrying Cappy, they raised 4 children together. She was the original soccer mom, with the added skills of helping guide each of her children through the many phases of life with a great sense of humor and care. She was proud to be the home where friends and family always hung out and laughed.

But Claire was more than just a wife and mom. She studied Yoga, was an avid reader and worked in several vocations, including the health and wellness fields. She also volunteered in her children’s schools as well. Although she didn’t fly, Claire and Cappy traveled extensively from Puerto Rico to Alaska. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing family games and going to the Good Steer.

Even in the last phase of her life, she found time to smile, laugh, and tell amazing stories about her experiences in life. And she still kept Cappy in check.

Claire is survived by her husband Cappy and four children: son Thomas of Buffalo, NY, son Gary of Stamford, CT, son Craig and his wife Charlene of Milford CT and daughter Kathleen Schaefer and husband Karl of Yorktown Heights, NY. Twelve grandchildren: Tara, Kathryn, Joshua, Craig Shawn, James, Charles, Connor, David, Cayden, Amelia, Riley and William.

Claire is predeceased by two siblings: Maureen Stiger and Elaine Quigley.

A celebration of life will be held in June 2024 in Milford, CT. Details to follow.
