📰 News we're reading

1. Large Residential Project Back Before Milford Board (patch.com) — Milford residents may soon see a revised 189-unit apartment complex proposed for 553 West Ave., a scaled-down version of earlier, larger plans. The Metro 553 LLC project, tied to developer Metro Star, is back before the city's Inland Wetlands Agency, with six buildings, 261 parking spaces, and work planned near wetlands in the Beaver Brook Watershed.

2. Local Event: Yoga Nidra in the Himalayan Salt Room (patch.com) — Milford residents can unwind with a one-hour Yoga Nidra session in the Himalayan Salt Room at Mind, Body & Soul Wellness on Tuesday, September 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. The guided, no-experience-needed meditation focuses on deep relaxation in zero-gravity chairs, but space is limited, so you'll need to call ahead and prepay to reserve a nonrefundable spot.

3. Police Provide Update On License Plate Readers, Other Cameras In Milford (patch.com) — Milford officials have shut off all speeding and red-light cameras and deactivated several neighborhood license plate readers, with hardware removal expected around Sept. 21. Remaining readers will only monitor entry points into the city after recent Board of Aldermen resolutions limiting their use. Residents may notice cameras still physically present but no longer issuing violations.

4. Milford Arrest Log, Aug. 23-27, 2026 (patch.com) — Milford police have released details on recent arrests, including domestic incidents, shoplifting cases at local stores, and several people picked up on outstanding warrants. The log covers August 23–29 and includes multiple Milford residents as well as visitors involved in disturbances at area hotels and businesses. All charges listed remain allegations unless proven in court.

5. Closer to Free Ride turns personal for Bank of America employee (nbcconnecticut.com) — A longtime Milford schoolteacher, Tony Solecki, is being honored by his son Steven during this year's Closer to Free Ride, which raises money for Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital. After Tony's care at Smilow during his battle with brain cancer, Steven and fellow Bank of America employees are riding and fundraising to give back to the communities and families facing similar challenges.
