September Recovery Month Awareness

Discovering different options for recovery and resources within the community

National Recovery Month
National Recovery Month (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration)

Since 1989, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration has been working to raise awareness towards National Recovery Month every September. Recovery Month works towards promoting new evidence-based treatments and recovery resources for those seeking help with addiction and substance use.

There are multiple pathways to recovery and every person's journey will be different.

Peer-supported recovery involves help from groups, specialists, and programs using a structured foundation towards recovery.

Treatment-assisted recovery uses professional assistance such as doctors, therapists, and social workers who can provide treatment options such as medication, therapy, or a combination of the two.

Faith-based recovery are services that involve spiritual ore religious affiliation that can provide a level of support for those who actively practice religion and would find comfort in assistance from a religious institution.

And the last type of recovery option is called natural recovery. Natural recovery happens when those who are struggling with addiction or mental health problems find that their road to recovery involves their own interpersonal resources without professional treatment in a facility.

If you or someone you know is struggling with recovery, mental health issues, or substance use, there are resources within the community such as MATT (Mobile Addiction Treatment Team) with Bridges Healthcare that provides street-side treatment for those struggling with opioid addiction. There is no appointment or insurance necessary. Potential candidates must be over the age of 18 to receive services.

Children under the age of 18 can get access to services through 211 services where parents can look up potential providers through providing their zip code, the age of the child, and what type of care they are searching for.
