Some Events at Milford Beaches Draw Resident Concerns

Park, Beach and Recreation officials said a couple of events held this summer led to concerns and officials are assessing the situation.

MILFORD, CT — Park, Beach and Recreation officials say there have been a couple of events held at city beaches that have led to some concerns by residents, according to recent meeting minutes.

Recreation Director Paul Piscitelli, according to meeting minutes, that there were two events in the recent weeks that some residents of Milford were not happy.

Complaints ranged from no parking available, loud music and limited beach availability. In the future months Piscitelli will bring a proposal together which may incorporate a change in the application to talk about amplified music and more specific details about the event to ensure that we offer facilities to people who want to use them but also don’t negatively impact the residence who use the beaches and other facilities on a daily basis. Also this summer fees for parking at local beaches increased for non-residents.

According to meeting minutes, Piscitelli – advised there is an increase in fees generated for additional revenue; however, the volume of cars remains the same as last year this time. In addition, the parking lots had to be closed on two occasions (Jet Ski Race and Sand Castle Sculpture Contest).

Currently, there is no information as to what the police enforcement for parking on the streets has been. Commissioner Shashinka inquired if the police have been enforcing parking on the streets and Piscitelli advised they have.

Vice Chairman Fabian inquired as to what Fund the parking fees are going into. Piscitelli advise the General Fund. He also indicated when the season is over everyone will meet and review what worked and what didn’t.
